Good morning Mr Baglietto

My name is Peter Green and live at 301 Imperial Ocean Plaza , I would like to raise an objection to the
proposed development Devils Tongue opposite our home.

This is not in line with the governments green agenda for Gibraltar , it will again cause massive traffic problems
and another high rise development outside the city walls which does not look well to tourism as inside the walls
especially upper town has been left to decline.

Please pass on my objections .

Best regards

Peter Green

Dear Planning Committee,

The first things that I think need to be considered when the Planning Committee again meet to consider this development is the noise, dust and traffic congestion that will be experienced during the construction work. The construction phase of the development will undoubtedly affect a considerable number of people who live near Devils Tongue and those who’s journeys take them near to this part of our city.

I accept that this inconvenience will not last for ever and after a few years things will of course return to normal, except for that is for the immediate occupiers of the nearby properties. They will be permanently affected by a loss of privacy and natural light.

However, even if after you have considered the above you still consider that the proposal is deemed acceptable then, in my opinion there is remains a far greater loss to consider.

I would urge the committee members to take a walk along Waterport Road from the direction of the Cruise Terminal and towards the city centre. If you do so you will be travelling along one of the very few Roads in Gibraltar that allows you to experience an almost uninterrupted view of the Upper Rock.

You will also be taking the route taken by almost every Cruise passenger that has ever walked into the city.

The grant of this application will in effect not only be denying the current and future residents of Gibraltar a clear view of the Upper Rock from this location, but it will also deny any future visitors this unique experience.

To reiterate this point I would urge the committee members to take a walk along some of the paths in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve and look down on the city itself, as I recently did.

If you do this, you may share my surprise about how few areas are left in the city from where you can actually see an uninterrupted view of the Rock.

Gibraltar is arguably most famous for two things, Monkeys and of course the Rock itself. We rightly promote the Rock to the world, but sadly we seem happy to deny our residents a clear view of it.

30 years ago, residents of and visitors to Gibraltar could enjoy views of the Rock from many locations in the city. Now they cannot. I would urge you to not to deprive future generation of Gibraltarians and visitors the chance to see an uninterrupted view of the Upper Rock from the Waterport area by ensuring that any future development the Devils Tongue area is no higher than the height of the old city wall.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen

Dear Sirs,
Further to the planning application above  to develop the petrol Station and Garage opposite Ocean Village I am writing to oppose this on the following basis
1.It will be an extremely modern looking building of 19 floors.totally out of keeping with other buildings in the area which it will tower above like an unsightly carbuncle  and will abut the ancient and historic walls of Casemates, which will detract from their historic uniqueness.I am not opposed to a development which would blend in  with the other buildings in the area.
2.Trafic in this area is currently quite heavy and additional vehicles residing in the area would add to the congestion and traffic fumes.
3.As our Government has failed to date to improve the outflow of raw sewage in to the sea this along with any other developments will just add to the problem.Yours sincerely,Douglas Vickers.Grand Ocean Plaza,Ocean Village.

I would like to comment on the above Development.

In my opinion there are already far too many high rises in this area of Gibraltar. Furthermore, I feel that this proposal will cause unnecessary environmental pollution to the very many nearby residents, that this will cause traffic chaos affecting three busy roads and that this type of development is out of step with the Governments proposed Green agenda.

I would therefore urge the Planning Committee to reject the proposal.

Yours sincerely,

Teresa James
